The Flight Of Canada And The Different Drummer - 863 Words

Decoteau, 1 Genevieve Decoteau Professor Flowers ENG 7800 04/27/15 Correlation between the novel The Flight to Canada and The Different Drummer Both of the novels ‘The Flight to Canada’ by Ishamel Reed and ‘The Different Drummer’ by Melvin Kelley were powerful and uplifting. The main subject of these two novels are slavery and freedom allowing the characters to search for their identity either spiritually or physically. ‘The Different Drummer’ is the novel that encourages us to strive and push oneself to make a real difference in life, and stop taking our lives and existence for granted. Both novels detailed the story of the main characters, that†¦show more content†¦The scheme was that their compensation could only be used in the stores owned by their white masters. This caused the workers to be indebted to their owners’ as a way of keeping since slaves were not allowed to terminate their slavery before clearing their debts. These conditions made the characters of both stories fed up, and they started to rebel due to such an injustice. In ‘The Flight to Canada’, three runaway slaves that were in search for freedom. They did not want to be held captive anymore, as they had a great desire of pursuing freedom. All of these slaves were owned by Massa Arthur Swille. Amongst the three slaves in the story, Quickskill was the most valuable. He was a poet, who wanted to seek freedom in Canada. He also had an aim of returning to liberate all the slaves and make a rebel against the â€Å"Massa†. Without any hesitation, Quickskill was the real leader. Before the time when he left the plantation, Civil War ended and it was time to break free and pursue freedom. All in all, each of the slaves embarked various challenges on their voyage to Canada.
